Week 8 is in the Books: Cidsports new Top 25 College FBS Poll

Wow, we live in interesting times, if you are a Big Ten football fan, especially one for the Iowa Hawkeyes who are 8-0 for the first time in the history of Hawkeye football. It appears to be down to a three team race in the Big Ten for the Big Ten Championship: Iowa, Ohio State and Penn State.

  • Iowa has played a Nick Saban team, who now coaches Alabama, back at the end of the 2004 season in the Capital One Bowl. Iowa beat LSU on the final play of the game 30-26.
  • Iowa played Urban Meyer at Florida, losing by 24-310 in a controversial finish at the end of the 2005 season in the Outback Bowl in Florida.
  • Iowa played Mack Brown at Texas, losing by two points in a close and competitive game at the end of the 2006 season in the Alamo Bowl in Texas.
  • Iowa was the only Big Ten team at the end of the 2008 season to win a bowl game, defeating South Carolina 31-10 in the Outback Bowl.
  • Iowa has won 14 of the past 15 games, since their 3-3 start in '08 and their loss at Michigan State by three points. Iowa lost four games in '08 by a total of 12 points.
  • Iowa is 8-0 (4-0 Big Ten) after Week 8 of the 2009 season with a 15-13 win over Michigan State in East Lansing on the final play of the game on a seven yard slant pass for their 12Th straight win in the FBS over the past two seasons.
