Our look at the Top 25 in College Football, after Week 12

We are heading into Thanksgiving week and many conferences will finish play in Week 13, ahead of conference title games in Week 14.

Week 12 brought a lot of upsets, especially in the Big 12, where both Oklahoma Big 12 schools, OU and Okie State, fell on back to back days. North Carolina State knocked down Clemson in the BCS pecking order in ACC play, during Week 12. USC spoiled Oregon's BCS hopes.

Here's our look at the Top 25 after Week 12

  1. LSU Tigers (11-0, 7-0 SEC West)

  2. Alabama Crimson Tide (10-1, 6-1 SEC West)

  3. Arkansas Razorbacks (10-1, 6-1 SEC West)

  4. Stanford Cardinal (10-1, 8-1 Pac 12 North)

  5. Virginia Tech Hokies (10-1, 6-1 ACC Coastal)

  6. Boise State Broncos (9-1, 4-1 MWC)

  7. Oklahoma State Cowboys (10-1, 7-1 Big 12)

  8. Oregon Ducks (9-2, 7-1 Pac 12 North)

  9. Houston Cougars (11-0, 7-0 C-USA West)

  10. Oklahoma Sooners (8-2, 5-2 Big 12)

  11. Kansas State Wildcats (9-2, 6-2 Big 12)

  12. Georgia Bulldogs (9-2, 7-1 SEC East)

  13. Michigan State Spartans (9-2, 6-1 B1G Legends)

  14. South Carolina Gamecocks (9-2, 6-2 SEC East)

  15. Penn State Nittany Lions (9-2, 6-1 B1G Leaders)

  16. Wisconsin Badgers (9-2, 5-2 B1G Leaders)

  23. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (8-3)

  24. Auburn Tigers (7-4, 4-3 SEC West)

  25. Tulsa Golden Hurricane (8-3, 7-0 C-USA West)

Looking at the conference races, after Week 12 -
ACC - Clemson wins the Atlantic at 6-2, one game ahead of Wake Forest and Florida State. In the Coastal, the division title will be on the line in Week 13, with Virginia Tech (6-1) @ Virginia (5-2) for the right to play Clemson in the ACC title game.

Big 12 - With the loss of Colorado and Nebraska ahead of the 2011 season, there is no title game anymore in the Big 12. Oklahoma State (7-1) remains in the lead, despite the 2OT loss at Iowa State on Friday night, since Oklahoma (5-2) fell at Baylor. Kansas State (6-2) sneaks into the #2 spot now, with OU's loss.

Big East - There is no title game in the Big East, so two weeks remain in the regular season. Louisville and Rutgers lead at 4-2, but three other teams have only two losses at 3-2: Cincinnati, West Virginia and Pittsburgh. Pretty much par for the case in the lowest rated BCS conference.

Big Ten - Michigan State (6-1) clinched the Legends division spot in the first Big Ten title game, with a 55-3 win over IU. The Leaders division spot will be determined in Week 13, when Penn State (6-1) travels to Madison for the final regular season game at Wisconsin (5-2).

C-USA - Southern Miss (5-2) leads East Carolina (4-3) in the East, while the West is a little more interesting heading into Week 13 with both Houston and Tulsa at 7-0. Week 13 will determine how the C-USA title game breaks down.

Independents - Only two programs will be bowl eligible this year with BYU and Notre Dame, who are both currently 8-3, with one game left. Neither are worthy of a BCS bowl in 2011.

MAC - Ohio U (5-2) leads the East, one game ahead of Temple and Kent State. While in the West, Northern Illinois and Toledo are both tied at 6-1 heading into Week 13. This week will sort out who meets in the MAC title game.

MWC - In the final season, before heading to the Big 12, TCU at 6-0 has clinched the tie breaker for the title with wins over both Boise State and Wyoming, who are both at 4-1 heading into Week 13. There is no MWC title game, but TCU controls whether they win the conference outright or not.

Pac 12 - Stanford has closed out the North division with a 8-1 record, ahead of Oregon, who is 7-1, with one game left in the conference. The Cardinal will play their final regular season game outside the conference, when they host Notre Dame at home in Week 13. Who Stanford will play in the first Pac 12 title game will be determined in Week 13, when USC (6-2) hosts UCLA (5-3) for the South division spot.

SEC - Georgia (7-1) collected their ninth straight win of the season in Week 12, clinching the East division spot in the title game, one game ahead of South Carolina. LSU (7-0) controls their own destiny as they continue a one game lead heading into the final week of SEC play in the West. Alabama and Arkansas are both 6-1, with games at Auburn and at LSU, respectively.

Sun Belt - No title game in this conference, with Arkansas State at 7-0 with one game left, leading Western Kentucky, who is 6-1, with an opportunity to clinch a share of the conference title, if Arkansas State falls and WKU wins out.

WAC - The conference is dwindling soon, with no title game, either. Louisiana Tech (5-1) is ahead of Nevada (4-1) and Utah State (3-2), with the final weeks coming in WAC play.

We want to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable week of Thanksgiving. peace

    Heroes Game - Iowa Hawkeyes (7-4, 4-3 B1G Legends) @ Nebraska Cornhuskers (8-3, 4-3 B1G Legends) on Black Friday of Week 13.

We head into October and the Top 25 College Football teams after Week 5 of 2011

The defending BCS champions keep finding a way to win most of the games, though they are 4-1, but 2-0 in the SEC West, so no longer the team to beat in College Football, but certainly in the conversation in the nation's best football division.

There are plenty of unbeatens, as College Football ends the first Weekend in October. Here's a look at our Top 25, after five weeks of play in the 2011 College Football season.

Here's our CidSports PreSeason Top 25 teams for 2011

We kickoff the 2011 College Football season and after taking much of the Summer off from blogging, we thought it was time to finally get our Top 25 Preseason Poll out for 2011!

    1. Alabama - the Crimson Tide seek their second BCS title in three seasons. Defense could even be better than the '09 BCS champs! The offense has some retooling at QB!

    2. Oklahoma - the SEC has won five straight titles, so while the major polls may like the Sooners... we say wait until we see them @ Florida State and in the new Big 12!

    3. Oregon - runner-ups in '10, the Ducks may be a team to watch, but do they have the quality defense that typically goes hand in hand with National Title?

    4. Florida State - could the Seminoles finally be back? Stoops (OU) and Chizik (Auburn) won titles in year 2, while Kelly (Oregon) was a runner-up!

    5. Boise State - the way non-BCS teams have played over the past decade... it is only appropriate to rank the Top non-BCS team in the preseason Top 5, right?

    6. Virginia Tech - the Hokies have some retooling to do, but Frank Beamer is one of the best in College Football. Special teams, defense plus offense makes a good formula!

    7. LSU - We have knocked them down a little, due to questions over the past month... this program has a tough schedule in 2011, but can't be overlooked!

    8. Notre Dame - are the Fighting Irish back in the BCS mix? Wait, they have really never been in the BCS mix, though they have played in BCS bowl games.

    9. Oklahoma State - they have a Man of a Coach and the new Big 12 minus Colorado and Nebraska will have an interesting nine game format, like the old Pac 10.

    10. Arkansas - the SEC West is the best division in College Football. We lost two divisions (Big 12) and gained four more (Big Ten and Pac 12)... someone needs to be #10!

    11. Nebraksa - they join the Big Ten and they are at the top of the ladder in the preseason Top 25? Something just doesn't seem right, but we shall see how it all plays out!

    12. Wisconsin - the defending Rose Bowl representative for the Big Ten begins division play hosting Nebraska... will NC State transfer, QB Russell Wilson, shine in the Big Ten?

    13. Stanford - Yes, they have QB Andrew Luck, but they will be absent the head coach that lead them to a Top 5 finish in '10 and there is an offensive line that must gel!

    14. Texas A&M - Many have the Aggies higher in the preseason polls, but the new conference talk has to be a distraction in College Station, so we are lower expectations for '11.

    15. Ohio State - This team has won a share of the Big Ten title for six straight seasons, though sanctions tossed out the '10 season. What's up for 2011 in Columbus?

    16. South Carolina - I love their RB, who may be worthy of Heisman talk by mid-season, but QB is always a question mark for the 'ole ball coach in Columbia!

    17. TCU - a little high maybe for all the players departed, but coach Gary Patterson showed in the Rose Bowl win last season that he is among the best in college football...

    18. Mississippi State - Not a lot of choice again, there are a number of question marks with talent that has moved onto the NFL with a lot of programs. So, Bulldogs are #18...

    19. Florida - defense wins championships, so will a new head coach with a defensive flair help retool at program that has won two titles under their departed coach in '06 and '08?

    20. West Virginia - a Big East team certainly deserves to be in the preseason Top 25? But, will the Mountaineers get it done, under a new coach?

    21. USC - should they be in the Top 25, since they are on probation? They certainly could be a spoiler in the Pac 12 South division race in '11.

    22. Iowa - The Hawkeyes have lost some games over the past three seasons, but none by more than 7 points. Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes have a favorable schedule in '11.

    23. Brigham Young - the Cougars move from the MWC to becoming an Independent in Football in '11. There are a lot of questions in 2011 from top to bottom, so #23...

    24. Arizona State - the Sun Devils haven't won a lot of games of late and didn't even make a bowl game at 6-6 in '10... but, they have a lot of starters returning and could suprise!

    25. Auburn - they are the defending BCS title winners, but in 2009 they were not a Top 25 program, so why should they be with the absence of Heisman Trophy QB Cam Newton?

Last Five Out for 2011: Michigan State (lost to Iowa and Alabama badly in '10), Missouri (lost to Iowa in the Insight), Penn State (lost 8 of the last 10 vs. Hawkeyes), Southern Miss (lost trademark case with the Hawkeyes over Summer), Utah (moves from the MWC to the Pac 12 in '11).

Teams that need to win before being ranked in 2011: Georgia (6-7 in '10) and Texas (5-7)...

It should be a great College Football season in 2011.

The Utes will join the Pac 10 in 2011, while the Broncos will move to the MWC, as the Utes and BYU exit. Sorry Bronco fans, our choice are the Utes from Utah.

    * Have one more regular season game on 12/11 - Army (6-5) vs. Navy (8-3)

As previously mentioned the times are all Central Time

    peace

Our final CIDSports College Football Top 25, after 14 weeks of the College Football as regular season concludes for all, but Army-Navy game on Dec. 11

It has been an interesting season, with all the non-AQ talk falling short as we hit late November. Boise State (11-1, 7-1 WAC) nearly got it done, but a Week 13 date @ Nevada Wolf Pack (12-1, 7-1 WAC) cost the Broncos dearly for the BCS in 2010.

The Oregon Ducks (12-0, 9-0 Pac 10) have played outstanding all year, as has the top non-BCS program in 2010: the TCU Horned Frogs (12-0, 8-0 MWC). The BCS title game should be outstanding this season. The rest of the BCS bowl line up will likely do better with some adjusting, but that is for another post.

Others jumped from the preseason unrated programs to the Top 25 in 2010: Michigan State (11-1, 7-1 Big Ten), Nevada Wolf Pack (12-1, 7-1 WAC), Missouri Tigers (10-2, 6-2 Big 12 North), Oklahoma State Cowboys (10-2, 6-2 Big 12 South), Texas A&M Aggies (9-3, 6-2 Big 12 South), South Carolina Gamecocks (9-4, 5-3 SEC East), Mississippi State Bulldogs (8-4, 4-4 SEC West), West Virginia Mountaineers (9-3, 5-2 Big East), Hawaii Rainbows (10-3, 7-1 WAC) and

Several teams surprised in 2010, especially Auburn Tigers (13-0, 8-0 SEC West), Stanford Cardinal (11-1, 8-1 Pac 10) and Arkansas Razorbacks (10-2, 6-2 SEC West), who were all outside our preseason Top 25, but will finish 2010 in a BCS bowl. Congratulations to all three programs, especially Auburn for an undefeated season and a date with Oregon in the BCS title game.

Other programs didn't hit form in 2010, especially our preseason #7 Texas Longhorns (5-7, 2-6 Big 12 South), preseason #23 Cincinnati Bearcats (4-8, 2-5 Big East), preseason #25 Houston (5-7, 4-4 C-USA West). All three programs will be home for the Holidays in 2010.

We can't forget other programs, who will still bowl in 2010, but are not in the final regular season Top 25. Our preseason #4 Iowa Hawkeyes (7-5, 4-4 Big Ten). preseason #5 Florida Gators (7-5, 4-4 SEC East), preseason #11 Miami-FL (7-5, 5-3 ACC Coastal), preseason #14 Georgia Bulldogs (6-6, 3-5 SEC East), preseason #16 Brigham Young Cougars (6-6, 5-3 MWC), preseason #17 Texas Tech Red Raiders (7-5, 3-5 Big 12 South), preseason #19 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (6-6, 4-4 ACC Coastal), preseason #20 Penn State Nittany Lions (7-5, 4-4 Big Ten) and preseason #22 Pittsburgh Panthers (7-5, 5-2 Big East).

The season will likely be remembered most for conference realignment talk.

    • Nebraska is leaving the Big 12 for the Big Ten in 2011. Colorado is joining Utah from the MWC and moving to the Pac 10

    • The Big Ten and Pac 10 conferences will have 12 programs and new championship games

    • The Big 12 will lose two teams, so they will go to a nine game conference schedule, as the Pac 10 has enjoyed for several years and lose their conference championship game

    • BYU is becoming an Independent, joining Army, Navy and Notre Dame as the only Independents in FBS

    • Boise State is moving to the MWC from the WAC

    • But the MWC will be losing programs: BYU, Utah and TCU

    • TCU is the latest to join the list and will move to the Big East in 2012

    • Fresno State and Nevada will follow Boise State as WAC schools moving to the MWC

    • Will Hawaii stay or go? Talk in November is Hawaii wants to move for football only ...

    • If the WAC doesn’t add an eighth football school by 2012, the conference won’t lose its FBS status? Texas-San Antonio and Texas State are joining the WAC and moving to FBS

    • Congratulations to North Texas for hiring former ISU head coach Dan McCarney and electing to remain in the Sun Belt Conference, rather than move to the WAC

    • Nebraska (7-1) and Missouri (7-1) are both 3-1 in the Big 12 North race, but Cornhuskers own the tiebreaker right now

    • Baylor (7-2) is 4-1, with Oklahoma (7-1) and Oklahoma State (7-1) both 3-1 in the Big 12 South division

    • Michigan State (8-1) and Ohio State (8-1) are both 4-1 and don't face one another in the Big Ten race, while Wisconsin (7-1) and Iowa (6-2) are both 3-1

CIDSports Top 25 after Week 9

    1. Oregon (8-0, 5-0 Pac 10) 1 - Clearly playing outstanding football during the 2010 College Football season and control their own destiny. Week 9: Won 53-32 @ USC (5-3, 2-3 Pac 10). Next: vs. Washington (3-5, 2-3 Pac 10) in Week 10.

    2. Auburn (9-0, 6-0 SEC West) 4 - It's time to give coach Gene Chizik and the Tigers the credit they deserve as the only remaining BCS and SEC program undefeated. Week 9: Won 51-31 @ Ole Miss (3-5, 1-4 SEC West). Next: vs. Chattanooga (5-3, 4-2 Southern), a FCS program, in OOC play in November.

    3. Boise State (7-0, 3-0 WAC) 2 - Sorry Broncos' fans, but Oregon and Auburn each deserve a higher ranking based on conference schedule and overall play on the field. Two bye weeks are nice! Week 9: Won on Tuesday night 49-20 vs. Louisiana Tech (3-5, 2-2 WAC). Next: vs. #24 Hawaii (7-2, 5-0 WAC) in Week 10, against a program they are 8-1 and undefeated at home vs. Warriors.

    4. TCU (9-0, 5-0 MWC) 3 - The Horned Frogs lost two games in '08, one in '09, so can they continue to trend throughout '10? Week 9: Won 48-6 @ UNLV (1-7, 1-3 MWC). Next: @ #6 Utah (8-0, 5-0 MWC) in the MWC showdown of the year. The away team is 1-4 during this series in the conference.

    5. Alabama (7-1, 4-1 SEC West) 5 - We do have the Crimson Tide the Top One Loss program, despite there disappointing loss at South Carolina earlier in the season. Week 9: Bye week. Next: @ #11 LSU (7-1, 4-1 SEC West) in a game that will likely knock out the loser in the SEC West race.

    6. Utah (8-0, 5-0 MWC) 6 - The Utes opened the season at home with Pitt and now they have the biggest conference home game coming up in Week 10. Week 9: Won 28-23 @ Air Force (5-4, 3-3 MWC). Next: vs. #4 TCU (9-0, 5-0 MWC), in a game last year the Utes were blown out 28-55.

    7. Wisconsin (7-1, 3-1 Big Ten) 9 - Only loss was in the Big Ten opener @ Michigan State. Week 9: Bye week. Next: @ Purdue (4-4, 2-2 Big Ten) against a team in year two under coach Danny Hope that is banged up from a physical standpoint, due to injuries.

    8. Ohio State (8-1, 4-1 Big Ten) 10 - The Buckeyes haven't lost more than one game in conference play, since '05. This year, the loss was first road game in Big Ten @ Wisconsin. Week 9: Won 52-10 @ Minnesota (1-8, 0-5 Big Ten). Next: Bye week, before final three weeks of vs. Penn State, @ Iowa and vs. Michigan.

    9. Oklahoma (7-1, 3-1 Big 12 South) 12 - The Sooners are playing some young freshmen this year and have only one blemish, a road loss @ Missouri in Week 8. Week 9: Won 43-10 back home in Norman over Colorado (3-5, 0-4 Big 12 North). Next: @ Texas A&M (5-3, 2-2 Big 12 South), in a key road test.

    10. Nebraska (7-1, 3-1 Big 12 North) 13 - The Cornhuskers are in the driver's seat in the Big 12 North, with only a disappointing home loss vs. Texas in Week 8. Week 9: Won 31-17 vs. then #8 Missouri (7-1, 3-1 Big 12 North). Next: @ Iowa State (5-4, 3-2 Big 12 North), against a team that pulled out a 9-7 upset win in Lincoln last year, under coach Paul Rhoads now in his second season for the Cyclones.

    11. LSU (7-1, 4-1 SEC West) 11 - The Tigers don't get a lot of respect, but on the field they didn't get it done @ Auburn in conference play. Week 9: Bye week, after first loss @ Auburn. Next: vs. #5 Alabama (7-1, 4-1 SEC West).

    12. Stanford (7-1, 4-1 Pac 10) 14 - The Cardinal need help in Pac 10 play, since Oregon is rolling and gave Stanford it's lone loss. Week 9: Won 41-0 @ Washington (3-5, 2-3 Pac 10). Next: vs. #13 Arizona (7-1, 4-1 Pac 10).

    13. Arizona (7-1, 4-1 Pac 10) 16 - Despite a loss against Oregon State, the Wildcats can get to the Rose Bowl, if they can win out in the Pac 10. Week 9: Won 29-21 @ UCLA (3-5, 1-4 Pac 10). Next: @ #12 Stanford (7-1, 4-1 Pac 10), in the game that will likely determine, if Oregon is in a race in the Pac 10.

    14. Iowa (6-2, 3-1 Big Ten) 17 - The Hawkeyes two losses @ Arizona and vs. Wisconsin can be highlighted by poor special teams play. Week 9: Won 37-6 at home over former #7 Michigan State (8-1, 4-1 Big Ten) to knock out the Big Ten's final undefeated team. Next: @ Indiana (4-4, 0-4 Big Ten), where Iowa has won 5 of the last 7 in series.

    15. Michigan State (8-1, 4-1 Big Ten) 7 - The Spartans don't play Ohio State this season, but the Hawkeyes put a dent in the Spartan armour. Week 9: Lost 6-37 @ former #17 Iowa (6-2, 3-1 Big Ten). Next: vs. Minnesota (1-8, 0-5 Big Ten) at home to clean up things.

    16. Oklahoma State (7-1, 3-1 Big 12 South) 18 - The Cowboys are playing far better than some thought they would heading into 2010. Week 9: Won 24-14 @ Kansas State (5-3, 2-3 Big 12 North). 20. South Carolina (6-2, 4-2 SEC East) 22 - The Gamecocks and coach Steve Spurrier have an opportunity to win their first SEC division title in the SEC this season. Can they keep the wheels going in this race? Week 9: Won 38-24 vs. Tennessee (2-6, 0-5 SEC East). We head into November with some outstanding races ahead. Will a non-BCS program get into the BCS Title Game this season? Will the Pac 10 and SEC allow one to get through the season unblemished?

CIDSports Top 25 College Football Poll after Week 2

So, how should the Top 25 sort out after Week 2 of the 2010 College Football season? Yes, we have Boise State #3 in the nation, but remember the season is very young. They are a solid program that can compete on the field with just about anyone, but they are also #3. We have a one game BCS title game, so right now, it will be up to the BCS programs to keep them out of the hunt in 2010, since the Boise State SOS doesn't give them any assistance along the way in this young season that just finished Week2.

    • We have some leaders in conference play in the ACC, C-USA, MWC, SEC and Pac Ten conferences, who have all opened up a little conference play already in 2010

    • The ACC Coastal Division has zero teams that are undefeated after only two weeks

    • The Sun Belt isn't going to gain much fan fare in 2010, with zero teams undefeated. Middle Tennessee missed vs. Minnesota in Week 1 and Troy missed getting Oklahoma State in Week 2. No teams are undefeated.

    • BYU will join the three Independents next year, but all four programs have something in common in 2010: each program is 1-1 for the season

    • The Big East has two undefeated teams, but barely, in Rutgers and West Virginia to start 2010

    • Only three programs in the Big 12 have been defeated in 2010: Colorado, Iowa State and Kansas all have one loss. Some Big 12 teams will open conference play in Week 3

    • The Big Ten has six programs 2-0 to open the 2010 season

    • East Carolina is 2-0 (2-0 C-USA East) to open the season with back to back conference games. Will the Pirates win OOC opener @ Virginia Tech in Week 3?

    • Temple (2-0, 1-0 MAC East) are the only remaining team undefeated in the 13 member MAC.

    • The Pac 10 has six programs 2-0 to open the 2010 season.

CIDSports Top 25 after Week 2

    1. Alabama (2-0) 1 - The Crimson Tide remain undefeated and are the clear #1 in our book, being the defending BCS champions and after a 24-3 win over the former #20 Penn State (1-1) Nittany Lions. Next: @ Duke (1-1, 0-1 ACC Coastal), who lost to Wake Forest (2-0, 1-0 ACC Atlantic) in the Blue Devils ACC opener 48-54. First road game at a BCS school for Alabma, since '02. Alabama beat Duke 30-14 in last meeting.

    2. Ohio State (2-0) 2 - The Buckeyes are the five time defending Big Ten champion and they took care of business in Week 2 defeating former #11 Miami-FL (1-1) 36-24 in Columbus. Next: vs. Ohio U (1-1, 0-1 MAC East) - in the Buckeyes third of four straight OOC home games. The Bobcats lost their MAC opener at home 13-20 to Toledo (1-1, 1-0 MAC West). Ohio State is 6-0 lifetime playing Ohio U, beating them 26-14 in '08.

    3. Boise State (1-0) 3 was idle in Week 2. Next: The Broncos are @ Wyoming (1-1), who lost 7-34 @ #5 Texas in Week 2. Boise has defeated Wyoming four times dating back to the '02 season, winning '06 game @ Wyoming 17-10.

    4. Iowa (2-0) 4 - The Hawkeyes are averaging 36 points per game, while giving up 7 points after defeating in-state rival Iowa State 35-7 in Kinnick on Saturday. Next: @ Arizona (2-0) in a rematch of last year's 27-17 win at Kinnick, but will the Hawkeyes fair as well in the Desert with a 9:30 pm Iowa time start in Tucson?

    5. Texas (2-0) 5 - The Longhorns won 34-7 in the home opener over Wyoming (1-1). Next: @ Texas Tech (2-0) to open Big 12 South play. Everyone should remember the shootout in '08 when the Red Raiders won 39-33 late over the Longhorns. Last year's game in Austin was a 34-24 win for the Longhorns, but coach Mack Brown would say the game was closer than the score.

    6. Florida (2-0) 6 - The Gators offense was sluggish in the season opener, but the Week 2 performance in a 38-14 win over South Florida (1-1) should help the Gator fans a little. The Gators defense sparked the win in first meeting ever vs. the Bulls. Next: @ Tennessee (1-1) in the SEC opener against a Volunteer team that couldn't hold off the #8 Oregon Ducks in the second half.

    7. TCU (2-0) 7 - The Horned Frogs pounded Tennessee Tech, a FCS program, 62-7 in the home stadium opener. Next: vs. Baylor (2-0) as the Horned Frogs look to win third game over the Bears, since the TCU-Baylor match up ended with the loss of the SWC. Baylor won in Week 2 over Buffalo (1-1) 34-6, after a win over Sam Houston State, a FCS program, in Week 1.

    8. Oregon (2-0) 8 - The Ducks got off to a sluggish start on the road @ Tennessee (1-1), but rolled in the second half for a 48-13 win over the Volunteers. Next: vs. Portland State, a FCS program, which the Ducks beat 55-12 in '06, when they last met in Eugene.

    9. Oklahoma (2-0) 18 - The Sooners have some very young and talented players and a 47-17 win over former #21 Florida State (1-1) gives the Sooners a quality win, after last year's 8-5 season. The Sooners have won four straight, since '09, including a 31-27 win over Stanford in the Sun Bowl. Next: vs. Air Force (2-0, 1-0 MWC), who defeated former #12 BYU (1-1, 0-1 MWC) 35-14 in MWC opener at home.

    10. Wisconsin (2-0) 10 - The Badgers will not move up after a 27-14 win over San Jose State (0-2) in Week 2. Are the Badgers a Top 10 team in 2010? Will we know much more until the opening of the Big Ten for the Badgers @ Michigan State in Week 5? Next: vs. Arizona State (2-0) - who beat in-state FCS program Northern Arizona 41-20, but the Sun Devils were only 4-8 in '09 and just how good are they in 2010?

    11. Utah (2-0, 1-0 MWC) 12 - The Utes beat UNLV 38-10 in MWC opener at home, after winning season opener over Pitt on opening day of the 2010 season. Next: @ New Mexico (0-2) in the MWC road opener. New Mexico has been beat up by Oregon in Week 1 (0-72) and vs. then #16 Texas State (17-52).

    12. Nebraska (2-0) 15 - The Huskers defeated Idaho 38-17, but with wins over WKU (0-2) and Idaho (1-1) to start the season, do we really know if the defense is up to the task in the Big 12, along with new QB Taylor Martinez? Next: @ Washington (1-1) in a good road test for the Huskers against a program was 0-12 in '08 and was 5-7 in '09 under second year coach Steve Sarkisian.

    13. Texas Tech (2-0) 16 - The Red Raiders won @ New Mexico 52-17 in the road opener in Week 2. New coach Tommy Tuberville will have an interesting Week 3. Next: vs. #5 Texas (2-0) in the Big 12 South opener at home. Will the Red Raiders make it two in a row in Lubbock over the Longhorns?

    14. LSU (2-0, 1-0 SEC West) 17 - The Tigers opened the season as our preseason #12 team, but the offense was sluggish behind junior QB Jordan Jefferson. The Tigers won the SEC opener @ Vanderbilt (0-2, 0-1 SEC East) 27-3 to move up, but this team is still a question, after double digit win seasons in '05 to '07 under coach Les Miles. Next: @ Pittsburgh (1-1) in Week 4. The ACC didn't fair well in Week 2, with all four Top 25 teams finishing with a loss. Week 1: CIDsports Top 25 Poll in College Football

Week 1 is now in the books, so how do we see the 2010 College Football season landscape, so early for the season? Well, we should look at last year's finish to a degree. One really doesn't know a whole lot after one week of play. Though, the Big East saw two schools go down hard, with former #22 Pitt and #23 Cincinnati losing games to #13 Utah (MWC) and unranked Fresno State (WAC), respectively.

There was only one conference game in Week 1. That is good news, since early games are best in out of conference. Play a couple of games before we see conference play begin. We like the way the Big Ten conference handles OOC and conference schedules, for example.

    Here's our Week 1 Top 25 for 2010

    1. Alabama (1-0) 1 - The defending BCS champion Crimson Tide tuned up for a Week 2 SEC-Big Ten showdown, with a solid 48-3 win over San Jose State (WAC), despite the absence of injured junior Heisman RB Mark Ingram. Next: vs. #20 Penn State (1-0) - a program that saw coach Joe Paterno face off with former Alabama coach Bear Bryant on four occasions ...

    2. Ohio State (1-0) 2 - The Rose Bowl champion Buckeyes tuned up for a Week 2 Big Ten-ACC showdown, with a Thursday night win over Marshall (C-USA) by the score of 45-7. Next: vs. Miami-FL - which should showcase two junior QBs in OSU's Terrelle Pryor and Miami-FL's Jacory Harris. The 2002 season's BCS championship rematch should be a good one. OSU has lost two home games in five seasons to Top 5 OOC opponents.

    3. Boise State (1-0) 3 - The Broncos go out East to Landover, MD and pull out a solid 33-30 victory over then #6 Virginia Tech on QB Kellen Moore's late TD pass. The non-BCS party remains, as Boise State gives the BCS a signal that they want to be in the discussion in 2010. Next: Bye week before 9/18 game @ Wyoming.

    4. Iowa (1-0) 4 - The reigning Orange Bowl champion Hawkeyes opened the 2010 season with a solid 37-7 win over Eastern Illinois, a FCS program that won the Ohio Valley in '09. Next: The Hawkeyes will square off in the Cy-Hawk Trophy game vs. Big 12 opponent and in-state rival Iowa State. Iowa has held the Cyclones without a TD for 14 straight quarters.

    5. Texas (1-0) 7 - The defending Big 12 champion Longhorns opened the 2010 season on the road in Houston vs. Rice (C-USA). The Longhorns took care of business with the Owls 34-17 at Reliant Stadium. Next: vs. Wyoming (1-0), who won opener 28-20 over Southern Utah, a FCS opponent. Texas won @ Wyoming 41-10 in '09 in Week 2.

    6. Florida (1-0) 5 - The offense struggled in the Gators opener vs. Miami-OH winning 34-12. Next: vs. South Florida (1-0), a first-time match up between these two FL schools. The Bulls won their opener vs. Stoney Point, a FCS opponent, 54-14.

    7. TCU (1-0) 8 - The Horned Frogs, the defending MWC champs, opened in Arlington at Dallas Stadium with a solid 31-20 win over Oregon State to build on their non-BCS resume for '10. Next: vs. Tennessee Tech (0-1), a FCS program who fell 3-44 @ Arkansas in their season opener.

    8. Oregon (1-0) 9 - The Ducks, the defending Pac 10 champs, rolled in the season opener vs. New Mexico (MWC) 72-0, which is a sharp contrast to the '09 opener @ Boise State, where the Ducks struggled on offense in a 8-19 loss. Next: @ Tennessee (1-0), who opened at home with a 50-0 win over Tennessee-Martin, a FCS opponent.

    9. Virginia Tech (0-1) 6 - The Hokies lose 30-33 as they give up a late TD pass to Boise State in Landover, MD on Labor Day evening. After falling behind by 17 points, the Hokies came back, but at the end, the Broncos were too much for the Hokies in Week 1. Next: vs. James Madison (1-0), a FCS program, that beat Morehead State 48-7 in the season opener.

    10. Wisconsin (1-0) 10 - The Badgers won 41-21 @ UNLV to open the '10 season. The Badgers have a trio of RBs to throw at opponents with junior John Clay, sophomore Montee Ball and true frosh James White. Next: vs. San Jose State (0-1), who were rolled by #1 Alabama 3-48 in season opener.

    11. Miami-FL (1-0) 11 - The Hurricane opened the 2010 season on Thursday night with a 45-0 win over Florida A&M, a FCS opponent. Next - @ #2 Ohio State in a rematch of the 2002 season BCS championship, where the defending champion Miami-FL team fell in OT to the Buckeyes. Will Hurricane upset the Buckeyes this time around in Columbus?

    12. Utah (1-0) 13 - The Utes knocked off the former #22 Pittsburgh Panthers to open the 2010 season, in a rematch of the 2005 Fiesta Bowl. Like 2005, the Utes won with a 27-24 win in OT over the Panthers. Next: vs. UNLV (0-1) to open conference play in the MWC for the final time, since the Utes will join the Pac 10 in '11.

    13. BYU (1-0) 16 - The Cougars took care of business in the home opener vs. the Washington Huskies with a 23-17 win. Next: @ Air Force (1-0) in the conference opener for both clubs. Air Force opened with a 65-21 win over Northwestern State, a FCS opponent.

    17. LSU (1-0) 12 - The Tigers held on to beat North Carolina in Atlanta 30-24 on Saturday night. The game become very tight at the end, despite UNC being down 13 players, due to violations or pending issues. LSU's offense was shut out in the second half, but the Tigers hung on to win. Next: @ Vanderbilt (0-1) for the SEC opener. The Commodores lost Saturday night at home to Northwestern 21-23.

    18. Oklahama (1-0) 18 - The Sooners nearly were taken to the wire in another season opener from the State of Utah. This time it was Utah State, who the Sooners beat 31-24, unlike BYU in the '09 opener. Next: vs. #21 Florida State (1-0), as the Seminoles will offer a solid test to Sooners in Week 2 of the season.

    19. Georgia Tech (1-0) 19 - The Yellow Jackets, the defending ACC champions, opened at home Saturday with a 41-10 win over South Carolina State, a FCS opponent. Next: @ Kansas (0-1), who lost in coach Turner Gill's debut for the Jayhawks against a FCS opponent, North Dakota State, who will open Missouri Valley Football play @ Northern Iowa (0-0) on Saturday.

    20. Penn State (1-0) 20 - The Nittany Lions started a true frosh at QB for the first time in Joe Paterno's 45 years at the helm in Happy Valley. The Nittany Lions won the opener over Youngstown State, a FBS opponent, 44-14. 22. USC (1-0) NR - The Trojans may be on probation, but aren't they deserving of a Top 25 ranking, though they will not be eligible for a bowl game in '10? The Trojans began the Lane Kiffin era with a 49-36 win @ Hawai'i. Next: vs. Virginia (1-0), who won the first game in the Mike London era, when the Caviliers defeated London's former team, the Richmond Spiders, a FCS program, 34-13.

    23. Arizona (1-0) NR - The Wildcats headed to coach Mike Stoops' home state for a 41-3 victory @ Toledo. The Wildcats looked better on offense behind senior QB Nick Foles. Next: vs. The Citddel, a FCS program, who defeated Chowan in Bulldogs opener 56-14.

    24. West Virginia (1-0) NR - The Big East deserves one team in the Top 25, after Week 1 don't they? The Mountaineers beat Coastal Carolina, a FCS opponent, 31-0 to open the season. Next: @ Marshall (0-1) on Friday night in an in-state rivalry.

Out of the Top 25 - The Big East saw two teams tumble out of the Top 25 with #22 Pittsburgh lost @ #13 Utah in OT 24-27, while #23 Cincinnati lost at unranked Fresno State 14-24 in Week 1. #24 Navy lost 14-17 to Maryland on Labor Day to fall out of the Top 25, as well.

There are some outstanding match ups in Week 2 of the 2010 College Football season. In Iowa City, we will see the Cy-Hawk Trophy game with #4 Iowa hosting Iowa State. But, there are some outstanding other games on the schedule...
