Happy New Year: Bring on the B1G Day of College Football

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year, as it was a great New Year's Eve for Iowa and Creighton's basketball teams, with conference opening victories last night. Texas A&M pulled out the Chick-fil-A Bowl over Duke, with a late Pick 6 to overcome the deficit ...

Now, four B1G New Year's Games to open the year 2014!

Gator Bowl:
Georgia vs. Nebraska at 11:00 a.m. on ESPN2 (HD)
It has been an emotional season for coach Bo Pelini and the Cornhuskers, as two teams face off 2014, as they did 365 days ago!

Heart of Dallas Bowl:
North Texas vs. UNLV at 11:00 a.m. on ESPNU (HD)
The Mean Green coach Dan McCarney is an old Big Ten guy; but they face a MWC replacement, since no B1G teams were eligible for the Big Ten bowl slot.

Capital One Bowl:
South Carolina vs. Wisconsin at 12:00 p.m. on ABC (HD)
First year coach Gary Anderson has the Badgered back in Florida, after his predecessor Bret Bielema lead Wisconsin to three straight Rose Bowls!

Outback Bowl:
Iowa vs. LSU at 12:00 p.m. on ESPN (HD) - Our Pick: Iowa 27-21
The Hawkeyes are back in a bowl game coming off an awful 4-8 in 2012, while the Tigers are looking for another bowl win, after losing 3 of last 4!

Rose Bowl:
Michigan State vs. Stanford at 4:00 p.m. at ESPN (HD)
The 100th Granddaddy of them all will be a classic game of smash mouth, physical football with strong play at the line of scrimmage, as the Spartans return, after a 26 year drought vs. a Cardinal back in Pasadena for the New Year!

Fiesta Bowl:
Baylor vs. UCF at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN (HD)
Welcome to the BCS as the Big 12 champions are the Bears from Waco vs
the first AAC champs are the Knights from Orlando, after moving to the AAC from the C-USA ...

It is first day of 2014, so we want to wish everyone good health, joy, love, hope, prosperity, peace and happiness in the New Year!

A little Fiesta tonight, before enjoying the The Orange on Tuesday in the BCS

The 2010 Fiesta Bowl kicks off on Monday, January 4Th at 7 p.m. Central Time on Fox and ESPN Radio in a great match up between two 12-0 conference champions from non-BCS programs from the WAC and the Mountain West.

Boise State vs. TCU
from Glendale, Ariz.

U. of Phoenix Stadium

TCU beat Boise State 17-16 in last year's Poinsettia Bowl. So, this should be an interesting rematch, on the field that Bosie State took out Oklahoma a couple years back.
Iowa vs. Georgia Tech

January 5, 2009: Fiesta Bowl and News of note

2009 Fiesta Bowl: Ohio State Buckeyes (10-2) vs. Texas Longhorns (11-1)
We see Ohio State is a +8 point underdog in this third and final Big Ten vs. Big 12 match up in a 2008-09 bowl games.

Experience would clearly be with Mack Brown's Longhorns at quarterback, with junior Colt McCoy, vs. Jim Tressel's Buckeyes at quarterback, freshman Terrelle Pryor. In the NFL, it clearly was the Arizona Cardinals beating the Atlanta Falcons, due to great part by the difference in experience at the quarterback position.

Ohio State's defense vs. Texas' offense... how much of a factor will defense play in this game? In the Rose Bowl, Penn State couldn't shutdown USC, until it was far too late. Does Ohio State have the offense to keep up with Texas?

Ohio State has won three of four Fiesta Bowls they have played in and only loss was to Penn State in the 1980/81 season. Still, Texas is the team to beat, but historically Ohio State plays the Big 12 far better than SEC bowl opponents. Frankly, Ohio State has never beat a SEC team in a bowl game. Will Texas be Ohio State's first loss to a current Big 12 opponent in a bowl game?

Cidsports' prediction for 2009 Fiesta Bowl

Ohio State 35

Texas 28

The Big Ten isn't going to finish 1-6 in bowl games this year are they? Is Iowa's 31-10 win over South Carolina the only win the Big Ten will have in the 2008-09 bowl season?

In other news, ESPN reports:
