Black and Gold battle at Kinnick on Senior Day ...

Iowa City, IA -- The Iowa Hawkeyes (6-4) welcome the Purdue Boilermakers (4-6) to Kinnick Stadium for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff on the Big Ten Network. From 1961 to 1980, the Boilermakers owned this series.

The Hawkeyes turned the tables back in 1981, in Hayden Fry's third season at the helm, with a first year offensive line coach named Kirk Ferentz on the staff on route to a Big Ten championship season.

Neither Iowa nor Purdue are playing for a Big Ten title in 2017. Wisconsin locked up the West division title last Saturday in Madison, with a decisive 38-14 rout of Iowa. Purdue gave a better effort in Madison earlier in the season, but couldn't muster any touchdowns, in a 17-9 loss.

The Hawkeyes have won four straight games in the Iowa-Purdue series. The last win by Purdue was on Senior Day in Iowa City, on Senior Day.

Iowa has 18 seniors suiting up for their final game at home, at historic Kinnick Stadium. The North end zone will soon come tumbling down this off season.

A win today for the Hawkeyes will help build on the 55-24 win just two weeks ago over the Ohio State Buckeyes. Another loss would be devastating to a fragile fan base.

It may not be pretty today, as the winds of late Autumn roar, but the home team should take care of business.

Prediction:

Iowa 27
Purdue 19

The FBS is down to two final unbeaten teams: Clemson (11-0) and Iowa (11-0)

Embedded image permalink
Clemson and Iowa are the two remaining unbeaten teams in FBS College Football.
Iowa City, IA -- The #1 Clemson Tigers (11-0, 8-0 ACC Atlantic) and the #3 Iowa Hawkeyes (11-0, 7-0 B1G West), in each of the major polls, are the two sole remaining unbeaten teams in FBS College Football heading into the final weekend of the regular season for each team. Each will take to the road to face rivals, as the Tigers head to Columbia to face South Carolina, while Iowa faces Nebrasaka @ Lincoln.

By the way, Clemson has lost the last three games in Columbia. The game will kickoff on Saturday at 11 a.m. CST on ESPN. The Tigers beat South Carolina 35-17, last season. The Gamecocks fell to 3-8, after a 23-22 loss to The Citadel on Saturday.

Who are the Top 4 right now? There is no secret that Iowa and the Big Ten are not the favorites of ESPN.

ESPN likes the Big 12, with four of the Top 10. Florida almost got knocked off
on Saturday, when they were forced into OT against Florida Atlantic.
Yes, Iowa is 11-0  in 2015 ...
  1. Alabama - over an undefeated Clemson, not sure that is completely right?
  2. Clemson - Top undefeated team in college football ,,,
  3. Oklahoma - They look like the best one loss team, outside of the Crimson Tide, but they nearly lost at home to TCU on Saturday!
  4. Oklahoma State - not sure I agree with this one at all, since non-conference including zero Power 5 opponents ,,,
  5. Iowa - only remaining Big Ten team that is undefeated ... win out and they are in the College Football Playoff in 2015.
There are some big, big games in the College Football Playoff this week:
  • Alabama @ Auburn on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. on CBS
  • Notre Dame @ Stanford on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. on FOX
  • Oklahoma @ Oklahoma State on Saturday at 7 p.m. on ABC
  • Florida State @ Florida on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN
  • Baylor @ TCU on Friday at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN

#Hawkeyes Win, Clinch #B1G West Division title! https://t.co/7YCNo02fpy
Iowa at 11-0 for the first time in program history.
The Big Ten championship game will be determined in the East on Saturday. The West was already determined this past Saturday, when Iowa defeated Purdue 40-20, as the Hawkeyes finished out the season 7-0 at home.

  1. Iowa (7-0 B1G West) - the Hawkeyes haven't played a top team in the East, but they have defeated everyone they have faced all season and are the only unbeaten remaining in the conference.
  2. Michigan State (6-1 B1G East) - the Spartans opened play in November with a late minute loss @ Nebraska, but took care of business @ Ohio State, with a field goal on the final play to win 17-14 and fall right back into the driver's seat in the B1G East ...
  3. Michigan (6-1 B1G East) - They need help in East Lansing, as first year coach Jim Harbaugh seeks to bring the Wolverines their first win over the Buckeyes, since 2011, when Luke Fickell enjoyed a year leading his alma mater ...
  4. Ohio State (6-1 B1G East) - Well the regular season conference win streak is done at 30, as the Buckeyes fall for the first time in the regular season in conference play under Urban Meyer ... some interesting comments from two players, as a trip to face the Team Up North is next in Ann Arbor ...
  5. Northwestern (5-2 B1G West) - after back to back 5-7 seasons, under Pat Fitzgerald, his tenth season at his alma mater has more joys than cries ... short drive down to Soldier Field to face Illinois, who the Wildcats lost to 47-33 last season!
  6. Wisconsin (5-2 B1G West) - road trip ahead for first year Paul Chryst @ Minnesota ...
  7. Penn State (4-3 B1G East) - second year coach James Franklin has both the Buckeyes and Wolverines hoping the Nittany Lions can play spoiler to the Spartans B1G season ...
  8. Nebraska (3-4 B1G West) - a win in the Heroes Game would give the Huskers 6th under first year coach Mike Riley!
  9. Minnesota (2-5 B1G West) - new coach Tracy Claeys earned his first B1G win, after three straight losses to Michigan, Ohio State and Iowa, with win over Illinois ... now seeking 6th win of season and first win over Wisconsin, since 2003 ...
  10. Indiana (1-6 B1G East) - after getting their first B1G win in Maryland, they seek another B1G win @ Purdue to become bowl eligible for the first time, since 2007!
  11. Illinois (2-5 B1G West) - Interim coach Bill Cubit hasn't earned the job ... Soldier Field is the finale of the regular season, as the Fighting Illini work to become bowl eligible!
  12. Purdue (1-6 B1G West) - the Boilermakers haven't dropped three straight in the battle for the Old Oaken Bucket, since 1944-47, so third year coach Darrell Hazell may become the next?
  13. Rutgers (1-6 B1G East) - the Scarlet Knights lone win was over the Hoosiers, but they may be in the cellar at season's end, if they don't take care of business at home to close out 2015!
  14. Maryland (0-7 B1G East) - the Terrapins will determine who their new coach will be, as Mike Locksley is holding the interim title for now ...

MSU's Tyler O'Connor completed 7-of-12 passes for 89 yards and one touchdown while Barrett went
9-for-16  for 46 yards and one TD. O'Connor picked up 11 of his 25 rushing yards (on eight carries) while
converting a crucial fourth-and-3 situation on MSU's second touchdown drive. Barrett let the Buckeyes
with 15 carries for 44 yards. Regular QB Connor Cook was injured and couldn't play for MSU.

The Calm before the Storm: Iowa Football 2015 vs. Purdue and at Nebraska to close out regular season

Iowa Kirk Ferentz is in his 17th season as Iowa’s head coach.
He has guided the Hawkeyes to a 10-0 record, the best start in program history.
Iowa City, IA -- The #5 Iowa Hawkeyes (10-0, 6-0 B1G West) close out their final two Big Ten games in the next seven days with Purdue at Kinnick Stadium on Senior Day, then a Black Friday affair at Nebraska in Lincoln. One win will send Iowa to the Big Ten Championship Game for the first time in program history, though the Hawkeyes are already making history with ten straight wins for the first time in program history.

Winter Storm Warning
Eastern Iowa
2 hours ago – National Weather Service
Purdue third year coach Darrell Hazell
in last year's Iowa game to open  2014.
Iowa beat Purdue 24-10 last year in
West Lafayette for the 2nd straight year.
Hazell is 2-20 in Big Ten games.

Heavy snow this evening through Saturday morning. A winter storm will bring the first significant snow of the season to the area ... Snow accumulations: 6 to 12 inches ...

Will the weather be the great equalizer for in the Iowa-Purdue game?

With the weather, look for the running game to lean heavy for Iowa, the Hawkeyes lead the Big Ten with 30 rushing touchdowns. The Boilermakers have allowed 22 rushing touchdowns, No. 13 in the conference.

The Hawkeyes enter Saturday's game #5 in the College Football Playoff poll and #6 in both the AP and Coaches polls.

How did Purdue defeat Nebraska ... turnovers played a huge part of the game, in the Boilermakers 55-45 win over the Cornhuskers? Purdue is second in the Big Ten in interceptions with 12 on the season, including two at Northwestern (L, 21-14) and four in the game against the Cornhuskers. Iowa leads the Big Ten and ranks 17th nationally with 13 interceptions.

Text
Purdue QB #11 David Bough accounted for five touchdowns, one rushing and
four passing, as the Boilermakers beat Nebraska 55-45 for their lone B1G win.
In both wins this season for the Boilermakers scored touchdowns passing the ball, with each starting quarterback throwing four touchdown passes. David Blough's four touchdown passes against Nebraska are tied for the second most by a Big Ten quarterback this season. Austin Appleby also had four touchdown passes in a game this season against Indiana State. Blough has started the last eight games, after replacing Appleby, as the number one signal caller for the Boilermakers.

Image result for Paul Griggs purdue over Iowa
As a freshman, #37 Paul Griggs hit a 46 yard field goal
as time expired to lead Purdue over Iowa 27-24, in 2012.
This is the latest game of the season ever played in the Iowa-Purdue series. In 2012, the last time Purdue came to Iowa City to derail Iowa's Senior Day, the game was played on November 10th. The Boilermakers beat Iowa, as now senior PK Paul Griggs hit a 46-yard field goal as time expired to win 27-24.

Iowa junior RB #29 LeShun Daniels, Jr. is coming off an 195 yard rushing
performance in Iowa's 40-35 win over Minnesota. He scored 3 TDs, as well.
Iowa beat Purdue 38-9 back on November 17th of the 1990 team. The latest game previously in Iowa City was on November 17th. Iowa won the Big Ten back in 1990 and the Boilermakers only won two games all year. The latest game ever in the series was in 1989, when Iowa beat Purdue 24-0 in West Lafayette on November 18th.

Iowa senior RB #33 Jordan Canzeri is one of 21 Iowa seniors set to play final
game at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday, as Iowa hosts Purdue for Senior Day.
Canzeri made it back last week, after being sidelined with an ankle injury.
Canzeri ran for 256 yards and four touchdowns in Iowa's win over Illinois.
Three Hawkeye running backs (Jordan Canzeri, 256, Akrum Wadley, 204; LeShun Daniels, 195) have combined for eight 100-yard rushing games this season: Canzeri (4x), Wadley (twice), and Daniels (twice). The last time the Hawkeyes had three different players rush for over 100 yards in a game in the same season was 2005: Albert Young (8x), and Shonn Greene and Damian Sims once each. The Hawkeyes also have three receivers with 100-yard receiving games: Matt VandeBerg (1), Tevaun Smith (1), and Jerminic Smith (1). It is the first time since 1995 three different Hawkeyes recorded 100-yard receiving games: Tim Dwight (2x), Demo Odems (1), Scott Slutzker (1).

In Iowa's win over Minnesota, senior WR #4 Tevaun Smith threw a pass to
move the sticks, as Iowa pulled off a good exotic play.
Senior members of the 2015 Iowa football program include:

Iowa's offensive line was anchored by senior C #63 Austin Blythe.
Iowa’s offense is averaging 211.7 rushing yards and 421.4 yards of total offense per game. Iowa leads the Big Ten in time of possession (33:34), and ranks second in scoring (33.6), rushing offense and third down conversions (46.5%). Three Hawkeye running backs have rushed for at least 195 yards in a game.

  • #63 C Austin Blythe - the anchor of the offensive line this season, along as a leader in the Leadership Group for the Hawkeyes in 2015. Iowa's Leadership Group in 2015 has really set the tone, as Iowa opened the season 10-0 for the first time in program history.
  • #33 RB Jordan Canzeri - after getting his first start in the 2011 Insight Bowl, as a freshman against Oklahoma; Canzeri has battled back from a knee injury in 2012 to an injury plagued junior season to his senior season where he ran 43 times, a Hawkeye record, in rushing for 265 yards against Illinois. Iowa's leading rusher at running back, as a senior.
  • #97 DT Darian Cooper - Cooper missed his junior and senior seasons due to injuries.
  • #38 FB Adam Cox - after missing last season, due to a knee injury, Cox is back and healthy again helping open up lanes for the Iowa running backs from his fullback position.
  • #7 CB Sean Draper - one pass breakup as a reserve CB for the Hawkeyes, as a senior.
  • #87 TE Jake Duzey - the former leading receiver at TE in the Big Ten, Duzey has been working his way back from knee surgery throughout his senior season. He has played in six games, as a senior, with no catches, after 58 catches over his first three seasons playing.
  • #36 WLB Cole Fisher - 82 tackles, as a first-year starter, as a fifth year senior.
  • #17 WR Jacob Hillyer - a solid blocking WR, he has a career high 13 catches, but looking for his first TD of the season, after 3 career TDs, prior to his senior season.
  • #16 P Dillon Kidd - Averaging 43.1 yards a punt, as a senior, after an up and down first season, last year. Kidd is one of the most improved players in 2015.
  • #1 PK Marshall Koehn - Koehn kicked a 57 yard field goal to fuel Iowa's 27-24 win over Pitt, as a senior.
  • #80 TE Henry Krieger Coble - Leads Iowa's TEs with 23 catches, as a senior. Has very good hands per coach Kirk Ferentz.
  • #27 FS Jordan Lomax - the former starting CB, moved to FS last year, after an knee injury his sophomore season. Lomax is one of three senior captains this season and joined C Austin Blythe and DE Drew Ott for the Big Ten Media Day in Chicago, with coach Kirk Ferentz.
  • #34 DE Nate Meier - after arriving as a high school running back, he moved from RB to LB, finally settling in at DE, in his second season. Meier has 6.5 sacks and 10 tackles for loss, as a senior.
  • #95 DE Drew Ott - opened the season with five sacks, 7.5 tackles for loss and three force fumbles, before a knee injury cost him his senior season for the Hawkeyes. Ott, Blythe and Lomax served with junior QB C.J. Beathard, as team captains.
  • #39 LB Travis Perry - he joined the program as a walk-on, but has played a strong role as a reserve linebacker and special team player.
  • #42 FB Macon Plewa - along with Cox at fullback, Plewa has been a strong fullback in Iowa's running game,
  • #58 C/G Eric Simmons - a career reserve lineman for the Hawkeyes, filling roles at center and guard.
  • #49 WR Tevaun Smith - limited at times, due to injury, Smith is averaging 18 yards a reception, with two TDs, including an 81 yard reception for six, as a senior.
  • DE Melvin Spears - a reserve defensive lineman and special teams player, as a senior.
  • #20 WR Andrew Stone - a walk-on and reserve WR, who transferred in from Iowa Western CC, like Eric Simmons. Stone enjoys kicking back and playing guitar with Beathard outside of the game.
  • #65 RG Jordan Walsh - like Blythe, a veteran offensive lineman for the Hawkeyes, playing RG again, after 23 starts at the position prior to this season, after making his first career start as a redshirt freshman at LG.
Leadership has been very strong in 2015. Iowa's game captains have been
seniors DE Drew Ott, C #63 Austin Blythe, FS #27 Jordan Lomax and
junior QB #16 C.J. Beathard, walking out with former Iowa TE Tony
Moeaki during the Minnesota game last Saturday night.
It's about us trying to beat the team in front of us, and ultimately, it's about us playing our best football,” Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said. “If we're good enough, we're good enough, and if we're not, we're not, but that's all we can try to do.”

Iowa's offensive line from right to left heading into the Purdue game: junior
RT #64 Cole Croston, senior RG #65 Adam Walsh, senior C #63 Austin Blythe,
sophomore LG #79 Sean Welsch and sophomore RT #52 Boone Myers.
Since Iowa Kirk Ferentz arrived in 1981, to serve nine seasons, as former coach Hayden Fry's offensive line coach, Iowa has averaged 31 points per game in the Iowa-Purdue series. Purdue has averaged 18 points. So, with the weather and all ... our pick for Saturday's game at Kinnick:
Iowa 31, Purdue 18.

Iowa junior QB #16 C.J. Beathard has dealt with a hip pointer, along with a
groin injury much of the season, after two injury free games to open the season.
He is the first Iowa QB to open 11-0, after earning his first start in the 2014
Big Ten opener at Purdue. The Hawkeyes won last year's game 24-10.
The Boilermakers are 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the Big Ten Conference as they enter Kinnick Stadium for an 11:01 a.m. CST kickoff on ESPN2. The Hawkeyes look to finish their home schedule with a 7-0 record, as they look to win their first Senior Day game, since the 2013 season, when the Hawkeyes beat Michigan 24-21.

We have 21 outstanding young people in this class,” said Ferentz. “Like every senior class, there are a lot of different, individual stories. You have guys like Austin Blythe, Tevaun Smith, and Drew Ott who have played four years, and guys like Melvin Spears, Eric Simmons, and Andrew Stone, who haven’t started a ballgame, but the comparison is all those guys are doing a great job. They work hard every day, do things right and to me, serve as great role models.”

Even with the higher stakes Saturday, Ferentz is focused on keeping things in the seven-day perspective.

We’re trying to keep it as simple as that, not think much bigger than that or beyond,” he said. “That’s when tightness sets in. It’s about us trying to beat the team in front of us and playing our best football. If we’re good enough, we’re good enough, if we’re not, we’re not, but that’s all we can try to do."

There will be emotion with Senior Day, there’s no question, but those emotions only last so long. Then it gets into what the substance of the whole thing is all about.”

The substance is Purdue and winning the next game on the schedule, even if nobody wants to talk about it.

Nebraska senior RB #32 Imani Cross in last Saturday's 31-14 win over Rutgers.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers (5-6, 2-4 B1G West) enjoy a bye week on Saturday, ahead of the 2:30 CST kickoff on ABC on Black Friday in Lincoln. ESPN has a story titled "Huskers split on significance of spoiler role against #5 Iowa." Ferentz will wait until, after the game with Purdue to talk about the next team on the schedule, but his first game at Iowa, as a head coach, was in 1999 against a Nebraska team ranked #5 in the land.

If Iowa gets Purdue taken care of properly, the Hawkeyes may be in a reverse of roles to close out the 2015 regular season ...

First year Nebraska coach Mike Riley spoke to the media following practice on Tuesday. He spoke about the team's need for a bye week.

"We've played 11 straight weeks. We went right through fall camp and started playing games, so I'm approaching this week a little bit differently than I would normally." Riley said. "We are going to practice two hard days. One of them was today, one of them will be tomorrow and they'll have some lifting times. Then I'd like to get them rested. We'll start practicing Sunday afternoon."
Iowa opened up to a 24-7 lead in last year's Nebraska game. But, the Huskers
rallied back, as QB #4 Tommy Armstrong lead Nebraska to a tie in regulation.
The Huskers took care of business winning 37-34 in OT over the Hawkeyes.
Coach Riley also talked about how he and his staff have been involved in a lot of Friday games in the past. Riley was scheduled to be in Cedar Falls on Friday night on a recruiting visit, but weather likely sidetracked that trip for him.

"In my old league, we were playing any night. We played them all…Thursday, Friday, Saturday. So we were always pretty flexible...It's just about the countdown to the game and it doesn't matter the day of the week." Riley said. "Having a bye really, really helps us, considering that it's a Friday game. It's about time for us. I've really appreciated this team a lot. I think that they've stayed the course, battled a lot of injuries, got better and positioned ourselves to set the table for a big game."

First year Nebraska coach Mike Riley was 93-80, after 14 seasons as head
coach at Oregon State, with a break to the NFL, after his first two seasons
in Corvallis. His 3-6 start in Lincoln is the weakest start, since the 1958 for
the Huskers. Since 2010, Riley was 5-7, 3-9, 9-4, 7-6 and 5-7 at Oregon State.
Coach Riley proceeded to explain how the Iowa game is another great opportunity for the team to come out and shine. Since 1981, Nebraska leads the Iowa series 6 wins to 2 losses, with Iowa's wins in Ferentz's first season, as an OL coach (1981) and in 2013, after Iowa's last Senior Game win.

"It's really exciting." Riley said. "This is another great opportunity for this year's team. We've been on a little bit of a roller coaster in a lot of ways, so it would be just a great opportunity to win."

Big Ten Football: B1G East showdowns, while Iowa hits 10-0 for first time in program history ...

Cedar Rapids, IA -- Two of the four Power 5 programs that remain unbeaten come from the Big Ten Conference, as #2 Ohio State (10-0, 6-0 B1G East) and #6 Iowa (10-0, 6-0 B1G West) lead their respective division, heading into the final two weekends of the regular season. We have seen the Buckeyes at 10-0 before, but it is the first time in program history for the Hawkeyes.

Last Saturday, Ohio State defeated Illinois 28-3 in Champaign to capture sixth
B1G win and tenth overall win on the 2015 season. Meyer is now 30-0, in
conference regular season games, since arriving in Columbus in 2012.
Fourth year Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has won thirty straight conference games in the regular season, since joining the program in 2012. Meyer has only three losses, since joining Ohio State and the Big Ten. The lone bowl loss, ironically was against Clemson, in his second season, in the Orange Bowl. Clemson is now #1 in the rankings. The Buckeyes beat current #3 Alabama in last year's College Football Playoff semi-final game, in the Sugar Bowl.

The Iowa Hawkeyes leaned on the TEs in the game on Saturday night against
Minnesota. The Hawkeyes will play in their final home game of the season
on Saturday, when Purdue comes to Kinnick Stadium to face Iowa.
The Hawkeyes have not won a bowl game, since the 2010 season. The Hawkeyes had a 19-21 conference record ahead of this season. The Iowa fan base was frustrated heading into the 2015 season, but with the 40-35 win on Saturday night against Minnesota for their 10th victory on the season ... it has been a 180 degree turn for the Hawkeyes.

Iowa junior CB #14 Desmond King leads Iowa and the Big Ten with 8 of
the Hawkeyes 13 interceptions this season. Back in 2013, Iowa and Ohio State
last played. The Buckeyes edged the Hawkeyes in the 4th quarter, 34-24.
The Buckeyes and Hawkeyes each host Senior Day games on Saturday, as the #7 Michigan State Spartans come to Columbus, and the Purdue Boilermakers comes to Iowa City. The showdown in Columbus is huge, since the Spartans can jump into first place in the B1G East with an upset win over Ohio State. The Hawkeyes need only one more win to wrap up the West division and a date in the Big Ten Championship Game, for the first time.
Iowa leads the West at 6-0, ahead of Wisconsin (5-1) and Northwestern (4-2);
while Ohio State leads the East at 6-0, ahead of Michigan and
Michigan State at 5-1. Penn State needs a lot of help at 4-2.

Since the Big Ten Championship Game, began in 2011, the following programs won the Big Ten:

  • Wisconsin in 2011 went 7-2
  • Wisconsin in 2012 at 5-4 (Ohio State was undefeated in the Big Ten, but on probation)
  • Michigan State in 2013 went 9-0
  • Ohio State in 2014 went 9-0
  • The final two weekends will determine who plays in the 2015 Big Ten Championship Game on December 5th ... will it be the Buckeyes and Hawkeyes or will we see some surprises?
ESPN's A team will be on the call on Saturday in Columbus, as former
Ohio State QB Kirk Herbsteit, Heather Cox and Chris Fowler come to town.
Senior Day in Columbus, Ohio State will host Michigan State, as questions surround the health of senior quarterback Connor Cook, who was injured in the Spartans 24-7 win over Maryland on Saturday. Kickoff will be at 2:30 CST on ABC/ESPN as ESPN GameDay comes to Big Ten country, with Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Heather Cox on the call.

Will Michigan State backup QB #7 Tyler O'Connor be the guy leading the
Spartans' offense on Saturday? Or will senior Connor Cook be healthy enough
to lead the Spartans, as Michigan State comes to Columbus on Saturday?
  • Ohio State enters the game having won 23 in a row overall, the longest active streak in the nation.
  • Ohio State has won a Big Ten-record 30 regular season conference games in a row, a record across the current FBS conference landscape.
  • Ohio State leads the B1G in scoring (36.4), pass efficiency (144.1), rushing (244.8) and punting (41.0) and is second in scoring defense (13.8), total offense (453.3) and fewest first downs allowed (15.5).
  • Ohio State's defense has surrendered just 8.5 points per game since week 7, the fewest in the FBS.
  • Junior running back Ezekiel Elliott leads the Big Ten with 161.7 rushing yards per game in Big Ten play. He has an FBS-leading streak of 15 consecutive games with at least 100 yards rushing.
  • With 181 yards at Illinois, Elliott moved into third place on Ohio State's all-time rushing list with 3,565 yards. Eddie George is second with 3,768.
  • Sophomore quarterback J.T. Barrett has accounted for a total of 14 TDs in his past 4 games (8 rushing, 6 passing).
  • Junior wide receiver Michael Thomas has caught a pass in 26 consecutive games. He leads the team with 45 catches for 651 yards and 8 TDs.
  • Junior defensive end Joey Bosa leads the Big Ten with 12.5 TFL in Big Ten play. He tied a career high with 3.0 TFL in the win at Illinois.
  • Urban Meyer has the highest winning percentage (.854) among active coaches with at least 10 years of experience. He is a perfect 28-0 in games played in October (14-0) & November (14-0) at Ohio State.

PENN STATE vs. MICHIGAN

Senior Day in Happy Valley, Penn State (7-3, 4-2 B1G East) hosts Michigan to close out the B1G home slate of the 2015 season. Last year, the Wolverines surprised the Nittany Lions 18-13, in James Franklin's first season at the helm at Penn State. The Nittany Lions are coming off a bye week, while Michigan is coming off a 48-41 2OT win @ Indiana. Kickoff at Beaver Stadium will be 11 a.m. CST on ABC.

Chesson & Rudock
Michigan graduate student QB #15 Jake Rudock and senior WR #86 Julu Chesson
each won co-B1G offensive player of the week honors, in the win @ IU. Rudock
transferred from Iowa, after being a two year starter for the Hawkeyes.
Jim Harbaugh is in his first season, as head coach for his alma mater, Michigan. The Wolverines are 8-2 overall, with a lone B1G loss on the final play at home against Michigan State. Michigan is performing very well, in Harbaugh's first season. The next two games against Penn State and vs. Ohio State could really spark an interesting story.

Michigan QB #15 Jake Rudock leading the Wolverines offense in win over IU.
Michigan's quarterback dialed up a record-setting effort under center, completing 33-of-46 passes for 440 yards, with six touchdowns to one interception. Rudock's 33 completions are tied for second most by any Wolverine in one game, trailing only Tom Brady's 34 in Michigan's 2000 Orange Bowl win over Alabama, which came on the same number of pass attempts. Rudock's final three pass attempts were all touchdowns against the Hoosiers.

According to ESPN Stats and Info, Rudock is the first Big Ten quarterback to throw for 400 yards and six touchdowns in a game since Kyle Orton accomplished the feat at Purdue in 2004, and just the second in the last 20 years.

http://www.mgoblue.com/collegesportslive/?media=504078
First year Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh took over a team that finished 5-7 in
2014. The Wolverines head to State College with a 8-2 record in 2015.
An interesting two week journey could create a storybook ending for two quarterbacks that were 1-2 for the Iowa Hawkeyes last year. If Ohio State beats Michigan State and the Michigan Wolverines closeout  2015 win wins @ Penn State and the B1G finale over Ohio State in Ann Arbor, the Wolverines and Hawkeyes could meet in the 2015 B1G title game in Indianapolis on December 5th. The Hawkeyes can clinch the Big Ten West with a win on Saturday against Purdue.

Penn State will look to complete its first undefeated home season since 2008, and extend a three-game home winning streak over Michigan that dates back to the same year. The last meeting in Beaver Stadium between the two teams was a historic one, as Penn State prevailed 43-40 in four overtimes for the longest game in the history of the Big Ten.

Iowa clinches the B1G West with a win over Purdue on Saturday.
Purdue (2-8, 1-5 B1G West) heads to Iowa for the 86th meeting between the schools on Saturday, with an 11 a.m. CST kickoff on ESPN 2. Purdue is 3-11 against a ranked Iowa team in program history. Purdue last beat a ranked Iowa team in 2003, when the No. 16 Boilermakers defeated the No. 10 Hawkeyes 27-14 in West Lafayette.

Iowa junior QB #16 C.J. Beathard in the Hawkeyes 40-35 win against Minnesota.
Iowa QB C.J. Beathard became the first Iowa quarterback to win his first career start in a road game since Jason Manson in 2006, in last year's 24-10 Hawkeye win @ Purdue. Beathard's start snapped a streak of 17 consecutive starts by QB Jake Rudock in 2014. Beathard completed 17-of-37 passes for 245 yards passing and one touchdown. He also rushed eight times for 29 yards.

Now the starter in 2015, Beathard has won his first 11 games as a starter for the Iowa Hawkeyes, dating back to last year's start at Purdue. In Iowa’s last 11 games, including the 2015 TaxSlayer Bowl, Beathard’s fourth quarter numbers include 35-of-49 passing for 500 yards and four touchdowns, and 17 carries for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Beathard did not play in the fourth quarter against North Texas.

Iowa senior DE #34 Nate Meier against Minnesota freshman RB #27 Shannon
Brooks, who was recognized as the B1G Freshman of the Week, this week.
Beathard and the Hawkeyes’ rush defense have dominated the fourth quarter in 2015. Iowa’s rush defense, the No. 3 defense in the conference, has yielded 191 total rushing yards in the fourth quarter this season (19.1 yards per game).

Beathard is 28-of-42 passing for 405 yards and two touchdowns. He has also rushed 15 times for 42 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter this season. Purdue redshirt freshman QB #11 David Blough completed 28 of 43 pass attempts
for 274 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. He added 82 yards
rushing on 10 carries, including a 56-yard touchdown run to open the scoring for the
Boilermakers in the first quarter of the 55-45 win over Nebraska.
Purdue redshirt freshman QB David Blough is scheduled to make his eight straight start, which will give him the most consecutive starts by a Purdue quarterback in the same season since Caleb TerBush started 13 games in 2011.

Purdue scored a touchdown on its first offensive play from scrimmage last week - a 68-yard touchdown pass from QB Blough to junior WR Domonique Young. It is the longest play Northwestern has allowed all season. Purdue lost at Northwestern 21-14 last Saturday, while Iowa won at Northwestern 40-10 earlier in Big Ten play.
