Virginia JUCO commits to Iowa Basketball and Fran McCaffery for 2011-12 season

The University of Iowa have received a commitment on Easter Saturday from junior college all-American Anthony Hubbard, a 6-5 athlete. Hubbard becomes the third member of the Class of 2011 for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

The Iowa Hawkeyes were 11-20 in coach Fran McCaffery's first season at the helm. The Hawkeyes finished tenth in the Big Ten in 2011. The Big Ten will add Nebraska for 2011-12. Nebraska was the other finalist for Hubbard's services.

The Gazette Iowa basketball reporter Scott Dochterman reported on twitter:

Iowa has two more scholarships to give for the Class of 2011. However, Fran McCaffery in Cedar Rapids on Thursday reported that Iowa may sign 1, 2 or 3 more for this class. Iowa signed two players in the Fall signing period. Hubbard joins 6-6 wing Josh Ogelsby from Cedar Rapids Washington and 6-8 forward Aaron White from Strongville, Ohio.

Iowa's quest for another strong run begins with rebuilding Offensive Line for 2010

Four key offensive linemen have departed the University of Iowa, after last year's 11-2 season and Orange Bowl win over Georgia Tech. Iowa returns sophomore OT Riley Reiff and senior OG Julian Vandeverde from the starting lineup, but C Rafael Eubanks, G Dace Richardson and Ts Bryan Bulaga and Kyle Calloway have departed. All four players received all-Big Ten honors of some kind for there play in 2009. Further, reserve Gs Dan Doering and Andy Kuempel have departed too.

It will be a new offensive line for the Hawkeyes, but head coach Kirk Ferentz and offensive line coach Reese Morgan are confident in the personnel Iowa has in 2010.

The Iowa coaching staff received some good news for the 2011 season with a verbal recruit for another offensive linemen. According to Rivals.com, Iowa, the Hawkeyes have received 13 oral commitments for the Class of 2011 thus far. National signing day is February 2, 2011, when oral commitments can become final.

The Eve of LOI day in College Football has arrived!

Wednesday, February 3, 2010 is national letter of intent day in College Football. The 120 FBS programs, as well as FCS and other NCAA divisions, will be allowed to sign players to national letter of intents for the 2010-11 football season.

Football camp for 2009 hasn't opened yet. We get to wait about a month longer for fall camp to begin for the 2009 Iowa Hawkeyes football team.

Kirk Ferentz will head to the annual Big Ten Kickoff Luncheon with three seniors. This year's event will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2009. It's the 38Th annual event for the conference.

It is the second verbal in two days for the Hawkeyes. July has turned out to be an exciting month, thus far, for the Iowa Basketball program. Coach Todd Lickliter is heading into his third season as head coach for the Iowa Basketball program.

Iowa Recruiting is picking up in the Summer of 2009

Iowa Football has eight verbals, so far for the Class of 2010, which is well ahead of last year's pace as Iowa City and the Eastern Iowa were suffering through the challenges of the Flood of 2008.



Momentum appears to be with both the football and basketball programs right now, if you jump on HawkeyeReport.com and follow the action. Recently, WI prep Mike Hardy verballed to Kirk Ferentz and the Iowa Football program. Hardy's verbal was followed up by Matt Hoch, a DE prospect out of Harlan, Iowa. Hoch decided to remain in-state, after his brother, Dan, headed to Missouri in the Class of 2008.

The Iowa Basketball program gained some positive energy traveling to Italy and Greece. Now, the Iowa Basketball follows up the positive foreign trip with its second verbal for the Class of 2010. Iowa received a verbal commitment according to HawkeyeReport.com from Illinois prep and point guard Ben Brust.

Iowa adds in-state verbal commitment to Class of 2010 in Football

HawkeyeReport.com reports in a headline titled Hawkeyes add in-state commit.

Austin Vier becomes sixth verbal commitment for the Class of 2010 and second in-state commitment for the class.

The Iowa Hawkeyes open the 2009 season at Kinnick Stadium on September 5, 2009, when the Hawkeyes face the University of Northern Iowa. The Hawkeyes are coming off a 9-4 season overall (5-3 in the Big Ten). UNI was 12-3 in '08 and finished runner-up in the FCS division.

Iowa Football 2009: New Recruits will join team for 2009 season

The University of Iowa signed 19 players for the recruiting Class of 2009 on Wednesday. Based on national rating services, like Rivals.com, the Hawkeyes class were high on 2 star players. Compared to other Big Ten conference teams, this was not considered a strong class, if you base it in on Star Power.

But, this is Iowa. Iowa football isn't quite heaven, when it comes to elite football programs, but the University of Iowa is a very competitive program in the Big Ten, despite being the smallest public university in enrollment among the ten Big Ten public institutions.

Iowa's head coach Kirk Ferentz enters his 11Th season as a head coach for the Hawkeyes in 2009. Over the past ten seasons, Iowa has played in five January 1St bowl games and two more Alamo Bowl games.

Iowa isn't sexy and this Class of 2009 isn't considered that way by those who observe college football recruiting. But, this appears to be a classic Ferentz class. Over the years, Iowa has found diamonds in the rough at TE. Iowa brings in two for 2009, after all-Big Ten TE Brandon Myers departs after the 9-4, 5-3 in the Big Ten, season in 2008. Iowa returns two solid TEs for 2009, who have solid experience.

Iowa filled needs, especially at RB, WR, TE, O-Line, D-Line and at CB. The player that got away, was at LB, but Iowa's first verbal recruit for the Class of 2010 is a LB prospect, who was named 2008 Gatorade player of the year, as a high school junior. Iowa returns everyone in the two deep at LB for 2009.

I have enjoyed Iowa Football, since 1974, as a ticket holder. Iowa has a lot of work to do between now and kickoff of the 2009 season at Kinnick Stadium on September 5, 2009. But, the future looks bright for the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Hawkeyes finished the 2008 season as a Top 25 program and they should enter 2009 in the Top 25, as well.

National Signing Day for College Football

The day has finally arrived for high school football athletes, with the first Wednesday in February. The *** star ratings will be discussed. Who succeeded, who failed, but the real questions will be answered this fall and over the next 1-5 years, since college football players, often redshirt, then complete up to four seasons of competition at the collegiate level.

Of course, some athletes will not even make it to campus, due to academic and other issues. But, they will be the talk of the town today.
