Week 2 of College Football and plenty of Prep Football Firday night

On Thursday night, the two FBS games went down the final seconds in the SEC and the MAC opener went into OT. Auburn beat Mississippi State in SEC road opener, while Temple pulled out victory to go 2-0 for the first time, since 1981, when they defeated Central Michigan in the MAC opener at home.

Will Friday night be more of the same of exciting competitive football?

The Warriors will kick off play at home in Kingston Stadium vs. south town rival Prairie on Friday night. The Warriors top player in 2010 will likely be Alex Carr, senior RB and DB, who is gaining some Division I interest in football as a CB and RS. Head coach Tony Lombardi is entering his fifth season leading the Warriors. The Warriors return seven offensive and six defensive starters for the 2010 season per MaxPreps.

Can the Cedar Rapids Washington Warriors continue success on the gridiron in 2010? The Warriors have reached the State Class 4A Playoffs the past three straight seasons reaching the quarterfinals or higher? Washington plays there home games at Kingston Stadium, as all Cedar Rapids Community Schools high schools do.

I attended the Cedar Rapids Washington game vs. Muscatine last night. The Warriors won the game 62-14. Though, the game was 20-14, prior to a Earnest Crank type touchdown (ie: former Iowa RB vs. Northwestern at Kinnick back in the 1990's) off a Muscatine failed on-side kick attempt, where Washington Warriors special teams player, Jerome Strong, took the failed on-side kick all the way for a touchdown to make the game 27-14 Washington.

Washington junior running back Andre Dawson and reserve RB sophomore Alex Carr went wild running the ball vs. the Muskies in the Warriors 62-14 win. Carr had a 70+ yard run called back for encroachment late in the game to reduce the blowout.

The Warriors (9-1) will face Dubuque Hempstead (6-4) on Monday night in the Class 4A first round. Ironically, the game will be in Dubuque.
