New Orleans Bowl: Southern Mississippi (6-6) vs. Troy (8-4)

Today's only bowl game is the 2008 New Orleans Bowl between Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles (6-6, tied for 2ND in C-USA East Division) vs. Troy Trojans (8-4, Champs of the Sun Belt).

This is Troy's third bowl game ever and first bowl game, since the '06 New Orleans Bowl, when the Trojans defeated Rice 41-17. Southern Mississippi had to win their final four games to get to bowl eligibility, in coach Larry Fedora's first season. The Golden Eagles know bowl games and have had a winning season each season this decade. So could the Trojans spoil the Golden Eagles winning streak?

The Golden Eagles led Conference USA with a plus 13 turnover margin. Troy was clearly the best team in the Sun Belt. Louisiana-Lafayette and Arkansas State were the two common opponents this season for both opponents.

Southern Mississippi appears to have more question marks. There winning season steak appears vulnerable in the 2008 New Orleans Bowl.
