Northwestern upsets Iowa at Kinnick to open season 5-0

Wow, what a season for the Northwestern Wildcats (5-0, 1-0 Big Ten) for the season. You have to go back to 1962 for a start anything like this for the Wildcats.

But, what about Iowa?

After opening 3-0 with a Cy-Hawk victory over Iowa State at home. Iowa was looking forward to Homecoming vs. Northwestern.

But, the road has gone south for the Iowa Hawkeyes (3-2, 1-0 Big Ten). The QB competition has been settled, but the past two weeks have not gone Iowa's way on the scoreboard, with back to back losses at Pitt and vs. Northwestern, in the Big Ten opener.

Next Up: the Hawkeyes face Michigan State (4-1, 1-0 Big Ten) on the road. Facing a MSU team, who are on a four game winning streak, since losing opener of the season at Cal, ouch!

The Hawkeyes vs. Northwestern offered up 5 turnovers and a short field much of the day for Northwestern. Iowa had a final opportunity first and goal at the Northwestern 8, with under 2 minutes in the game... only to not hit paydirt.

A tall order for Iowa this week in East Lansing. Progress may be there, compared to last year, but the fan base in Iowa City is going to get a little restless after 2 down seasons in '06-'07 (12-13) and a 7-5 season in '05.

Final from Saturday -

Northwestern 22
Iowa 17
